This year, the Marin Art & Garden Center is taking part in National Public Gardens Week, as a member of the American Public Gardens Association, which has been coordinating the event in gardens around the country since 2009. National Public Gardens week celebrates vibrant, relevant gardens committed to community enrichment and environmental responsibility through community engagement, sustainable practices and conversation.

 

MAGC will be hosting free activities as well as plant sales throughout the day on Wednesday May 15, in various locations on our grounds, located at 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in Ross. Call 415-455-5260 with any questions. We hope to see you here!

MAGC staff will lead tours of the 11 historic acres of the grounds here at MAGC. Learn about the gardens, buildings, and more about this beautiful setting in the heart of Marin.

Can’t make it for the tours? You can try out the brand-new Interactive Map, which will be making its debut this week–a virtual guide to the main architectural, horticultural and historic points of interest around the grounds.

The members of the Ross Historical Society will open the doors to the charming Octagon House, which serves as the Moya Library and houses a wealth of historical resources. Come take a look inside the unique reference library, with its collection of works related to art, decorative arts, architecture, gardening and local history.

Pay a visit to Laurel House Antiques & Collectibles, where you can find a gardener’s delight of vases, botanical prints, garden stools and large containers. Enjoy a cookie as you shop!

 

  • Sample Baked Blooms cupcakes

Baked Blooms is a home based bakery located in San Anselmo that specializes in custom cupcake bouquets of floral cupcakes. They are artfully arranged, creatively decorated with buttercream and packaged to look like a beautiful bouquet of flowers or succulents! Stop by for a taste.

Local artist Charlie Kennard will lead a group through the Basketry Garden on the hillside near the Barn theater. Charlie has been cultivating native grasses and reeds in this area, and incorporating them into a variety of remarkable woven items, including fencing, baskets, and beehives. Other examples of Charlie’s work will be on display in the main courtyard as well.

If you’ve got questions about roses, the Marin Rose Society will be on hand in the Rose Garden to answer them. There are over 150 specimens in the garden, including climbers, hybrid teas and floribundas, English roses, miniatures, shrub and old garden roses.

Stop off in the Edible Garden and refresh yourself with tasty pickles and infused drinks that feature the bounty you can grow yourself! MAGC staff will be on hand to point out what’s growing in our showpiece garden.

Staff from our local outpost of Cactus Jungle will be on site to offer planting and growing tips for cacti and succulents, and will have a craft project featuring these popular plants for you to try.

If you’ve ever wished you could have a garden like the ones at MAGC, this is your chance! We will be selling plants propagated on site, including native species and ones selected to do well in our growing conditions.

Sonoma Horticultural Nursery is alive and well, under new management and a new name! The Hidden Forest Nursery will be at MAGC with a special selection of its treasured rhododendrons and azaleas, premier shade plants, and an exciting new line of long-lived edible plants available for purchase.
