Praise for The Book of Eating

“If you can, try to accompany Adam Platt on one of his culinary adventures–not just for the food but also for his non-stop, hilarious, orotund commentary. If you can’t get an invite to dinner with Mr. Platt, by all means read The Book of Eating.  It’s a marvelous memoir, almost as good as dining with the master himself.”

Malcolm Gladwell

Join us for a conversation with local author Kevin Alexander (Burn the Ice)  and Adam Platt, one of the most influential, revered names in the food industry.  As restaurant critic for New York magazine, Adam Platt has spent the last nearly two decades popping up around town (and the globe) in his oversized black blazer under various absurd pseudonyms, marking new trends, assessing the efforts of famous and unknown chefs alike, and generally guiding the wallet-wielding diners of New York to their next great meal. In the course of this work, he’s picked up the James Beard Foundation Journalism Award for Restaurant Reviews, an assortment of friends and enemies, and a few extra inches around the waist. But where did Adam Platt come from and how did he land “the best job of the twentieth century”? THE BOOK OF EATING: Adventures in Professional Gluttony is the wildly hilarious and irreverent memoir of a globe-trotting life lived meal-to-meal.

Copies of THE BOOK OF EATING will be available for purchase at the event, courtesy of Book Passage.

A wine reception will follow the talk.
